The High Places

In the Old Testament, High Places were mentioned often as bad, and worthy of destruction.  These were places of worship on high ground, places where alters were built and idols were worshiped.  Today you will still find high places in Gujarat.  Going to these holy places is an important part of worship for Hindus and Jains.  Pilgrims will travel from all over to climb the steps–sometimes hundreds of them–to the temples and shrines.162 (2)

Pray for the pilgrims who are even now traveling to a ‘High Place’ or planning such a pilgrimage.  Pray that they will realize the futility of this journey as a way to get closer to their gods.  Pray that they will encounter the one true God, through Believers, the Word, or through the Spirit.  Pray for the destruction of the High Places, as they were destroyed in the time of King Josiah.

Isaiah 46:9-10  for I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like me,declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose,’
