The Patidar are a large Hindu ethnic group from the state of Gujarat. Three hundred years ago many in this group took the name Patel and it has since been the main surname for the group. Originally the Patidar were farmers. As they moved into the area from the north they took over and farmed much of the land in what is today Gujarat. When they moved into the city of Ahmedabad several hundred years ago, they became wealthy and influential. Today many are well-educated, becoming doctors, teachers, scientists, and politicians.
As a people, the Patels are very devoted to their Hindu religion and deeply entrenched in tradition. As they move around the world, they take that religion and tradition with them. Please pray for the Patels, those in Gujarat and those who have settled around the world. Pray that they will see with open eyes and hear with open hearts the truth of who Jesus is. Pray that they will step away from their traditions and embrace Christ with the same devotion. “Praise be the name of God for ever and ever , wisdom and power are his … He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him” (Daniel 2:20-22)
