Diwali

Diwali, celebrated in early November , is one of the most important religious celebrations in Gujarat. It is called ‘the Festival of Lights.’ People decorate their homes with special candles and electric lights (what we would call Christmas lights) and fireworks are displayed for days without ceasing. At this time, people will worship all gods, but particularly Lakshmi, the goddess of light, goodness and wealth. They will exchange gifts and enjoy feasts. Most homes will be cleaned in preparation for the spiritual new year. Please pray that this year as people celebrate they will come to see that Jesus is, as he says in John 8:12 “the Light of the world” and that “Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
